When former H&H style editor Michael Penney opened his first store, Penney & Co., in 2012, he never imagined it would spawn a spin-off within as numerous years. By late 2013, he had moved the store to a larger location, and later opened sweet Violet, for bed, bath and baby items.
Named for Penney’s 18-month-old daughter, the sweet Violet store is nostalgic and homespun. White Jenny Lind cribs, antique iron beds and pale violet panelled walls are the backdrop for stacks of duvet covers and quilts in French country florals, nautical stripes and paisleys. Upcycled pillows made from vintage fabrics add a customized touch, while Lothantique floral and fruit soaps from France scent the entire store.
